Comments: | Introduced by Mr. G.M. Fowler, none of this stock survived. Reintroduced in 1909 from Java to Colombo by Mr. Kelway Bamber. No longer important as a foodfish. Known to have been introduced accidentally when a pond in the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya overflowed into the Mahaweli River during the great flood in 1915 and again in 1935. However, various authors believed that this was introduced deliberately and systematically as a food fish (Ref. 6028). Also Ref. 13364. Ref: Pethiyagoda, R., 1991 |
